Seized!!

I just bought a 1985 Spree today for $500. Ran great til I went downhill and over-revved the engine and it seized.

Upon taking the engine apart I found out there was almost no oil on the piston, crank, bearings, etc. It was literally dry. I wished I would of drained what gas was in there and added some fresh mix!!

Now, I'm thinking big bore kit.

Anyone have any recommendations for a quality BBK?

I want to do 45+ mph and be able to cruise at 40 mph with ease. I saw the sell taller gearing.

Do I need a flywheel puller to remove the flywheel? I got the nut off but cant get the flywheel off.

Any have anything to add?

Your goal of 45 mph is going to be really really really really difficult to achieve on the stock spree motor. Even with a bbk and carb and all that stuff people seem to only get about 35 mph. Your best bet would be to swap the motor for an af16

Is the AF16 a direct drop in?

My crank feels shot, basically everything is done. I think my best bet is either a used drop in motor or an maybe a AF16.

af16 is what you want

I'm not sure how easy the af16 swap is, but it seems the variated af05e swap is pretty straight forward as long as you get your hands on a motor mount from an 87 se50. An af05e would definitely suit your speed needs with some slight modification. An af16 unrestricted should be able to accomplish those speeds as is.

Greetings:

There is a quick, cheap and dirty way to pull the flywheel if the engine is over a workbench over a pillow.
Reinstall the nut 3 turns on, so the crank doesn't protrude. Hold the engine by the flywheel, and give the nut (on the crank end) a couple sharp raps with a 1-lb hammer. The flywheel will pull off and the nut hopefully will catch it before the engine slams into the workbench. Use the puller if you can; it's cheap and risk-free.

a spree will never go 45 mph

an af05e is not a direct drop in for the spree ( neither is the af16e)

all af05e engine mounts are virtually the same plus or minus some protrusion that slides into the frame ( completely optional) so dont worry about 87 se50 mounts only

you need to decide how much money you want to spend now because if you do it as you go you will spend too much and lose sight of what your other options were.

how hard is it install an af16 af05e? They are super hard to find as well, I think either a donor bike or motor.

ive never done the swap but have both bikes in front of me. you would just need to make a new bracker. ither with welding skills or bolts, nuts, and washers.

ill bet you could just ask someone on this fourm to make you a bracket and they would. people probably have them lieing around its a common thing to ditch a spree motor.

HARD TO FIND
af16/ af18 found in 94-01 elites / dio

NOT HARD TO FIND
af05e 85-87 aeros 87-93 elites

there is even a af05e in our forsale section right now for $200 shipped. ill bet you can talk him down a little too, or get him to throw in some extra parts for your swap
