very noob question
So, i searched and searched but couldn't find an answer. It actually made me feel even more dumb since as far as i can tell im the only person that doesn't know the answers i seek.
The low down-
I bought a 01 honda elite sr 50 as a means of cheaper transport to and from work. I drove it home from the sellers house and i couldn't have been more pleased with my purchase. i went down a street that i typically drive 40-45 mph in my car to keep pace with traffic around me, and while riding down the same street on the moped i found myself going just a hair faster than others around me.
To make a long story even longer,
I fell in love with it. So i start driving it to work. A couple of days go by and before i knew it i needed gas. I filled her up with premium and was on my way. Next day, on my way to work(which is a pretty good distance. 6 miles.) i was almost to work and suddenly i lost power. not only lost power but it seemed to be slowing me down as if i was slightly applying the brakes. i tried to open the throttle. the only thing that happened was the intake sound got deeper.
So i take it back to my shop later that night and took the plastics off. pulled the spark plug, it looked as if it were ran hot so i replaced it. i was trying to kick start it but it wont start. i know now that i ran out of oil. It never occurred to me that i had to put oil in the reservoir as it is a 2 stroke engine.
My question is this-
what is the compression supposed to be. i want to make sure the engine is toast before i take it apart and rebuild it.
I downloaded the fsm but couldn't find the answer.
I am mechanically inclined as i build cars suited for drifting.( although i've never worked on a 2 stroke motor before and it looks quite interesting )
please, spare me the negative jokes, any advise would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Re: very noob question
manual says 114-171. I believe closer to 120 is most common, most engines will run at 90 psi but not any lower. Hope yours is above.

Re: very noob question
i kinda hope it isn't. i wouldn't know where to go from there if the compression is fine

Re: very noob question
Greetings:
So the oil tank was bone dry? That sucks if so.
By all means do a comp check with throttle open wide and a few drops of oil in the plug hole.
If thats ok, check the air filter. Hopefully it's just a chunk of foam stuck in the reeds. Happened to me with a 9 year-old original filter 3 years ago. The deceleration you felt wasnt a locked rear wheel, so thats good. It'll feel the same running out of gas or a fouled plug too.

"few drops of oil in the plug hole." ????????
No oil the first go round. If after you add a few drops the compression goes up, your rings are toast.

Greetings:
Oil advised because he said it ran dry.
A few Drops because if you add enough oil the compression ALWAYS goes up, shot rings or not. Oil takes up space and doesnt compress. The old Dogma needs to be qualified.

Re: very noob question
ok so i tried a few drops of oil in the cyl and it didnt change anything. i took the carb and reed off to inspect it and honestly i dont know a good one from a bad one. i dont know what to do about fixing it so i guess im just gonna build it from the ground up. can anyone provide a link/links that can further explain the dynamics of this motor. i know nothing about them and before i try to build it i need atleast some basic info on how it works. ive been building cars and motors for 10+ years now and ive never seen anything like this and im very interested in learning about it.

Re: very noob question
Greetings:
Check the posts in Scooter Builds.
Download the Factory Manual and read through crankcase assembly on up.
Carb cleaning threads will tell you what needs to be clean.
Reeds just need to close.
All gaskets and seals are critical.

2001 means AF16E block, a good choice stock or modded.
OKO CT CHROME Manifold for $45 fits the most popular carbs for modders - 21 to 30. Go 21 for stock cylinder.

Definitely a swapped cylinder. Masure 47mm = 72 cc with stock 41.4mm stroke. Needs more carb pilot jet and premix preferred. Stock carb can be modified almost enough, but best performance demands at least 21mm carb.

Re: very noob question
yea until i blew it.
so i guess the reed is fine.
my oil pump wiggles but im leaning towards taking it out. i dont understand why the cable is adjustable? how are you supposed to know that your getting the proper mix. it was adjusted all the way in so thats probably not good. least amount of oil was going in. the carb screws were set to 1 3/8 and that was both. i rode this thing like that for 3-4 days going 6 miles to work and six miles back. i hope all i need are rings, gaskets and a carb.
