Cold Start Issue & Oil Consumption Question

I have an 86 Spree which I recently purchased with 1900 miles on it. I spent a lot of time cleaning the carb, new stock air filter, new battery, replaced old oil in oil tank, replaced old fuel. Got it running and been riding for several weeks but have a couple items I need to resolve.

Easy question 1st. How many tanks of gas do you typically expect to go through before needing to refill your oil tank? Reason for asking is that i'm going on my 3rd tank of gas and my oil level seems to have barely dropped since I filled with new.

2nd question. When I first kick start the scooter it will idle fine for 10 seconds than begin to die. If I give it any throttle at all it dies immediately. After repeating this process 20 kicks later, the engine seems to be warm enough to allow me to jocky the throttle a little. If I keep messing with the throttle it will eventually come out of what seems to be "Choke Mode". Once I rev it a couple times it runs & idles great. If I let it sit for 1/2 hour and than restart, so long as the motor is still a little warm it will still start and run great. It's just when it's cold.

Could it be the bystarter is bad?

Thanks for your help

when you put about 6 to 8 tanks throw it the oil light shood come on ....
turn up the idle a little and this may help with the cold start..

Swimming free is right sprees don't use very much oil, I uses to put a ton of mile on my spree in a summer and maybe use a litre of oil max all summer. I'd go to the manual and set your idle air mixture and idle speed from scratch then tweak it till it's perfect.

Isn't the fuel/oil ratio something like 50:1? Also, sounds like you might have a faulty bystarter. They are cheap and quick to swap.

Flyingdiver, what's your top speed, and how much do you weigh, I think I'm having an issue with mine that only goes 25 with a new top end.
