I would start by checking the brake light switches. They are by the brake levers right in front of the brake cables. There should be a little button type switch that sticks out when brakes are applied thus turning on the brake light. Works like the automatic light switch on a walk in closet door. You can download the repair manual and it will show you how to access and test them. If that little center piece is gone or does not come out then it is bad. (you can check that just by looking at it with the brake applied once you figure out what you're looking for)

I would double check and make sure it has the correct bulb. It requires a dual element bulb unlike the turn signals which are single. Also check to make sure it's installed properly. The tabs on the side of the bulb are at different levels, look in the socket and verify it's in correctly and it's a dual element bulb.

Did it work and then stop working or did you get it like that and it's not worked since you've had it?
