I see on ebay that there are after market starter relay . According to this ebay posting http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-GL1500-GL ... d6&vxp=mtr
The same relay on the ch80 is used also on the GL 1500 goldwing. Seem to me if you ve got a bad relay you could use a after market on or the one of goldwing gl 1500 . Are bad relays common issue ?
My problem was it worked find. Left for a little bit and we get the clicking. Did a battery test at a shop. test good. Did the clicking for 4 days . Weather went back to being nice without rain and it went away. 1 month latter Left the bike again for 2 weeks sitting. Started up fine. Rain came back and we are back to clicking with a good battery. Anyone else have something like this happen ?

Yes, the relays fail. When switching DC, one contact 'pits' the other grows a spike due to arcing. Over time this causes a small area of contact, along with the heat of the arc causing high resistance or open condition. Sometimes this is called 'burned contacts'. Thus a relay with a 'click' but no switch closure.

If accessible, the relay switch contacts can be filed and work for a time.

I think it just might be the starter switch itself. Pushed on it lightly and it works. Really doesn't matter I ll clean it and then pick up a used relay as a back up for now. May just be that dampness as got into the switch .

The starter button does cause intermittent click/no click of the starter relay when dirty. We have a topic on the wiki for cleaning the horn switch and the start button is much the same --- Link - Click Me!
