Malossi CDI

Post by LMH »

I finally had some long distance trials for the Malossi cdis. I report they work exceptionally well. Great power and it may have been the fact I didnt need to full throttle all the time but I actually got better MPG. Much faster start up than with stock or the masses of "performance CDIs" that are being sold. On top end with the stock set up in full tune I gained maybe 2-4mm further on the cluster than with any other CDI. Although the engine didnt sound as loud at the top speed like before. It just sounds and acts so much more healthy than with the other cdis Ive tried. There are 2 versions of the CDI as Keith and I found out. One requires modifications and the other is direct plug and play. Both work equally well. The plug and play has an accessory also for timing control if you decide to purchase it as well.
This is the one that requires you to modify or make an intermediary harness to work on the Elite 89-01. Also you need a knowledge of the af24-28 wiring.

If time permits Ill do some timing charts with the various CDIs or I can let MW take a stab at it if hes so inclined. I feel hes well educated in the electronics field, more than enough in my opinion.
If I can find the pictures for the stock plug and play CDI Ill post it as well, or Ill pull it off the bike to take a pic or 2. It is a direct plug and play with absolutely no rev limiter so be fore warned.

Ill give her another whirl when it goes above 40 again to get some stock numbers and temps to compare. I brought the GPS but she died shortly after I took off. I know its scooting along pretty good. List of mods.
