I bought a spree from a guy I work with that has had it in his garage for years, but knows nothing about it anymore. I paid him 100 bucks for it. He told me the only thing wrong with it was the left turn signal is a little bent. everything else is in good working condition.
The color scheme is white with blue pinstriping.
He said something about it being a special edition. I hope that is enough to give me a round about time period as to the age of the scooter.
Also, what would an estimate for total cost to get the thing running again? I live in KY, so parts have got to be fairly accessible.. with a college town a lot of kids have them around here.. always wanted one.
Thanks for the help.

First of all, White sounds like an 84. Does it have a kickstart? It it does not the definately narrows it down to an 84 or 85, the easiest way to tell is to look at the VIN number under the right front fairing next to the front tire. I live in Lexington, what part of KY are you in? I may be able to get her running for you. lol Good luck.

my advice before u buy anything sit down and look at it mechanically and see what it needs. you can find a lot of parts on ebay.com if its been sitting drain oil/gas, clean the carb, buy a new plug, and who knows it might just start right up like mine did.

got the 86 special edition spree yesterday.. cleaned out the gas tank, oil tank, replaced battery, plug.
the horn, and signals work.
Kick starter wont turn it over,
Electric starter wont turn it over either. just cycles.
Gas pours out of carb. (seal in tact.)
Any tips?
I took the plug out of the head and tried to start it but I saw no spark. Perhaps I need a new coil... part #???

Try a compression test. You may not have enough compression to turn it over.

Ok, I do have a spark.. and compression is ok.
However, I am still having a gas overflow problem in my carb.
Could my problem be the plunger in the carb not closing the pin, causing too much fuel to enter the carb, overflow, and not allow the plug to spark and ignite properly?

yes. check the float and make sure its not sticking. also make sure the carb and fuel hose are tightened properly.

Ok. I fixed the problem with the carb at about 2am. I opened up the carb and lubed the pin with a little oil, and now it moves in and out with the float. Making the fuel stop overflowing on the garage floor.
Finally got her to start up at about 3am.
Electric start is still not turning her over.
Got her to kick start and gave it some gas several times. and now i cant get the thing to turn over again.
I have the throttle screw and the air screw both turned 1.5 times out from seat. This was after she started again as I was trying to get it to idle without me giving it all *.
Is there another configuration on those screws i could try to get her to turn over again? Or perhaps something else I could try..
Could I just have a dead battery?
Thanks.

if gas leaks out of the carb when it is just sitting there, youre petcock is sticking.

Well it will start with starting fluid, but it wont idle. and as soon as i turn the throttle , it shuts off.
Suggestions?
