It's hot outside, how do we keep our rides Cool

Post by TinyElvis »

So I went on a long mountain/canyon ride last weekend. Had to pull over a bunch to let my Corsa cool down.
Today I bought performance fan and a scoop for a Jog(?). Bought a Gy6 scoop and it's too big.

Any other suggestions on keeping it cool?

What is pull over and let cool temp? 400F?

After I get REALLY hot, what can I do to maintain the scoot better? Will it always run to HOT?
It's like 95F out and I still wanna ride (Crazy I know  ), but it gets me around...

I let mine cool down to around 250F and it bounces right back up to high 300's.
High gearing? don't wanna stress the engine too much with tall gears. Everything I've read and heard from the vendors is that 9:1 is a bulletproof with my setup. My second build will have the 8:1 gears. How would taller gears help keep the engine cooler??

Hmmmmm, soft seize. I was up above 400F. I run the best fuel available in the LA area (91). Well, I'll double check the shroud at night [too hot now]. I bought both a performance fan and a jog scoop. I still have my gy6 scoop. I'll decide oneI have both in hand.

My jetting has been the same rock solid setup I've had since April 2014. Never had any trouble until the temp started going st00pid hot out.

I hit 63 mph on a regular basis. Love my setup. Looking to play around with a new clutch soon.

You still need to upjet if you're hitting those temps. Ambient temp only accounts for so much heat. It's imperative that you upjet immediately.

Okay, finally had time to install a new OEM fan and a air scoop.

-Findings:

cool night ride for an hour. Riding WOT for about a minute (after a while of stop light riding) gets it up to 350F. Two minutes, it's at 395F.
temp outside was 65F. Pulled plug, installed a new one. It seems on the rich side of dark. Not too much tho.

I feel something else is going on. What else could go wrong with heat? Seals? What should be my oil ratio? 32:1?

I did indeed true the surfaces of the ct manifold. I reinstalled the Exhaust last night before the new plug/airscoop. If I recall correctly, it's 152/52 jetting. I have a chunk of masking tape with the jets and all the tuning I've done on the inside of the glovebox. 5.6 grams on the rollers. I do see some minor cracks on the rubber between the carb/ct manifold. I'll source out a new one.

Thanks EVERYONE who has been very helpful on this site!! Honda Spree RULZ

Confusing, as it's ran and ran pretty Effin good for the past 8 months. Ran the scoot for 13 hours in April at WOT for hours, no problem.
Already bought a new boot, as soon as I saw the cracks yesterday.
I'll drop the jets today.

I was advised by a handful of others here and in person that the OKO 28mm was the carb to have.
What carb would you advise? 24mm??

Greetings:

52/152 isn't all that big in the OKO 28. The Polini carb has something in the emulsion tube that decreases the jet size, but I'm not yet certain that fuel economy improves appreciably, beyond the smaller carb savings. The sudden change in a scooter that ran well for 8 months does suggest an air leak somewhere, and the rubber boot and/or CT mount gaskets are prime suspects. Have a peek at the crank end seals for good measure. If it seeps at ALL, replace, but keep in mind that seals usually fail for a reason - wobbly crank. You may have to dig all the way there if you want to be sure to find the issue. Corsas can handle 395, but for how long? Colder weather counter-intuitively makes the engine run warmer.

Well, tomorrow is a desert ride. I feel like tomorrow is the day I take my little Corsa and blow it up! I cannot track down the over heating problem. I am going to clean the OKO 28mm carb tonight. Hope that might help a little. Triple check the jets and just see. Can't just sit back and lit everyone else pass me and get lost in the desert! Ha!

Got a new C16 Yasuni pipe coming next week, and might just introduce a new kit to the whole equation... :naughty: :naughty:

you have a lean condition my friend. you're jets too small, or you have an air leak.
you will have to do a case pressure test. it's the only way to find the leak. GL. :nerd:

You should have a 7 to1 gear ratio, if your exhaust is more than 5 yrs old it may be plugged, your bore kit maybe old.
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!
