I haven't even pulled the kicker cover yet but I am guessing its that helical cut gear thats chewed up as they often are. Is there a substitute for those? You can't buy them from Honda anymore and they wear out oftenish, or should I say often I find them work out.
I got it started and running. It seems to have bearing noise and its high mileage plus the engine was flooded with 2t oil. I have seen that before where the oil just continuously leaks into the engine and just completely fills it.
The body is so-so and the seat is shot compound that with the apparent bearing noise and I am teetering between parting it out and swapping in a 1987 Elite 50 variated AF05e I have laying around. Also its high mileage, 6k to be exact. I actually like it though. A lot of times I pick up an old scooter and its been just messed up and beaten up. This one isn't in great shape but its all what I would call "honest wear". Someone used it as the workhorse it was meant to be but managed not to bust any blinkers or bend any rims or snap the pipe on the curb or whatever.
I could get my money back by selling the kicker cover and the petcock cover OR I could swap out the engine and make a Spaero.
Now that I think about it I could sell the petcock cover and the kicker cover AS WELL AS swap out the engine. Ok, never mind, settled.
I guess now the question is, does the Spree AF05 and the Aero (or early elite in my case) Af05e plug and play? Like does the engine mount/shock mount/wire loom match up? I guess I can deal with the wire loom, but if it comes to fabricating an engine mount my welding skills/cheap welder... well lets just say I wouldn't trust my life at 40mph to them.
Here are some pictures of the new old girl.
