No spark on my Ciao- Need help

Hi,
I'm having trouble getting my Vespa Ciao moped to spark. I tried everything. First thing I did was pull the carb, and it needed a good cleaning. I was measuring impedance of the ignition coil tonight (my tailight does light up when I pedal), and got 8.3k ohms between where the lead from the points connects, to the plug wire. But, when I'd take a measurement on where the points connect to the coil, to a ground, there was no resistance. Same with the spark plug wire. I'm guessing it has a direct short to the ground? I had my points lead disconnected. My points seem good. I was going to gap them tomorrow. Any major things I should be testing for? Thanks.
Any help would be appreciated; I can't wait to drive this classic thing. It hasn't been licensed since '87.
