1984 Honda Spree Restoration

How's it going everyone? I'm only able to check in on rare occasion but I like to share projects with the Spree crowd when I have something worthwhile.

Long story short...
California customer contacts me to redo a Spree > Buys Spree on eBay > Ships to me in PA > Shipping out to L.A. as soon as I can build the crate.

The customer wanted to scoot to match one he owned back in the day as far as the plastic was concerned but I was free to do what I wanted with the lower half (tires, wheels, etc).

This little guy has been a struggle since day one. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong but alas the 1984 is finally done to my liking. Here's the rundown of what I did as best I can remember.

Complete teardown
All stickers were recreated by me, not purchased (obsessive compulsive )
Powder coated frame, wheels, belt cover, stand, etc.
Polished controls and most nuts and bolts
Color was scanned for a paint match for all plastic - this is automotive grade paint and clear, not Krylon.
New seat cover, tires, grips
Found a brand new rear rack on eBay
Engine rebuilt
New driveline components
There has to be more but I can't remember...

Really looking forward to seeing this on the streets of LA. It's been quite a journey for me personally. Now the scoot has a long journey from PA to LA!

Clean them GENTLY using Dawn and Scotch Brite pads. This removes all the grease, oil, etc while also giving the pieces a bit of "tooth" for the paint to stick. Then choose your plastic paint from Krylon. The Satin finish gives a very slight sheen while not looking out of place as compared to an original piece from the factory. You can then clear them with flattened clear if you so choose. Pretty simple process.

This guy does good work!! If only I could have the patience to clean and polish every little area, bolt, etc. Very nice looking ride!

It's actually all the fine detail that is the hard part. I still have a ways to go on mine. It looks great as is, but when you start taking fine detail close ups, you'll see parts that need cleaned, or painted, rust removed, put back in shape, etc, etc. I'll probably end up spending a couple hundred more on fine detail work. Some of it, will be customized exclusive, but still, fine details that one probably wouldn't normally notice or see. Not really worth doing if it's gonna be a daily driver, but ones like mine are built more for show then actual use, so it makes sense to do it in that case. Rocks, sticks, bumps, scrapes are bound to happen, most of the stuff I want protected from that and painted, are getting a POWDER COAT treatment. This is only because it offers more protection then regular paint methods. I'd love to see alot more Spree restore projects from others. They're neat. I think more then just a restore, I wanna see someone take what I was personally able to do the with a BBK setup and go beyond that and implement it into a restoration. Bet that would be one sweet ride.
