Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

A few months ago a friend and me each bought honda aero 80s(awesome small scooter, i love mine), his blew up pretty soon after he bought it, and then he got a new jug and piston and rebuilt it. He also did a carburetor/intake/reed upgrade and went with a kit from ebay that came with a 24mm carb, a much larger intake, and reed block that has 4 reeds instead of 2. He used wire to hold the oil pump lever over to about 3/4 open. and after going through all the jets that came with the carburetor we can't seem to get it running good at all. it starts and idles perfect, but the acceleration is awful and it can only go about 35mph. My aero 80 accelerates much more quickly and will do 40-42mph, and thats with old worn rollers and totally stock everything with about 5000miles on it. I was hoping you guys would be able to give us some ideas about why his isn't running well, and where to start with trouble shooting. The only thing anyone has suggested was that it may need a larger exhaust to go with the carburetor.

not saying it will help but you may have the expipe full of carbon and needs to be clean out... bill a fire and throw the pipe in ...

Thats a good thought, there could even be pieces of the old piston in it block it up, he actually has an exhaust from a 1985 aero 80 he was going to swap on anyway. They are more aesthetically appealing than the 83-84 piece, and also have a larger outlet
