Installing those 8.4 gears. My stock set has a red washer on the case side of the small shaft and a metal washer on the cover side. When I tighten the cover, gears won't turn. I removed the red washer, tightened and turned. I know the metal washer is a thrust washer, I don't see the red washer in the service man. It does t seem like a good idea to have the shaft spinning against the alloy case without the red washer.
What's up? Anyone else run into this?

Re: gear install question
Well, I changed my search from gear install to gear washer, and thanks to a Wheman post, I need to replace the red with another thinner metal trust washer. I guess.... Lol

Re: gear install question
Greetings:
You're welcome. Yes, if you measure the countershaft lengths from left end to gear, gear left to gear right, and gear to right end, you may find the replacement a hair longer than stock. I dunno, maybe the Ruimas were designed to fit in AF18 or later engines. Anyway, the way you make extra room for the longer shaft is by thinning out the washer stack. Using a second metal washer instead of the thicker plastic one seems to do the trick.
