Side Bleed Pipe

Post by curtis966 »

Ok so I have this modified PG long pipe that I wanna use or at least test before I go and buy something different. If heard from many sources including the builder that it's loud and s*** so I planned to add a silencer and make it a true expansion chamber. I've now decided that to go with a side bleed would be a good idea to bring the noise level down even more, and I like the looks of course!
So my plan is to buy a MLM Side Bleed canister off treatland and weld it in to the PG and close up the end of the PG and done hopefully.
My first question is should I remove the stinger from the pipe first?
Second from every picture I've seen of side bleeds the canister should be mounted right at the middle of the cone, is that correct?
And third is should this work out fine or am I wasting my time?
And this pipe will be going on my 80ish cc ministroker.
Thanks in advance guys open to all comments good or bad :)

I have a side bleed People's Pipe for my Honda Hobbit. I did not like it compaired to my Proma though. It was a lot thicker metal compaired to the Proma, and it was 10x quieter. I did not adjust my trans on my Hobbit either because I didn't have any other weights to use so that may be why it didn't perform better. Anyways that pipe design is totally different than your PG. Adding the side bleed to a pipe is supposed to widen and strengthen the power band. Some guys install an end bleed also instead of caping off the end of the chamber by welding a nut there. Then they take bolts and drill different size holes in them and try the different sizes to further tune the power band. You could also fit a bolt in there to seal it completely if wanted too. I say do it. Look at the other side bleeds for comparison, but I think you weld it in the center of the chamber. I would cut off all that extra metal where the stinger used to be.

Thanks whitey I am in progress. I don't think I will go with the end bleed tho just the side bleed.

So far I cut out the stinger it was way longer then I would have expected lol. And cut a hole for the side bleed. It's not cut to size yet I'm gonna wait for the canister to get here. So just gotta find a good cap for the end of the cone and weld in the side canister. O yeah and wait for the snow to melt! d*** you Michigan!!

people call these pg pipes and scorpion pipes not chamber type muffers but all of them are underneath .As you can see from the pics above the rear section on these pipes are the mufflers once removed your left with the chamber section under neath.

Got my side bleed silencer in from treatland today! It's a little smaller then I expected but I was comparing to the spree MLM pipe which I've never seen in person. I'm going to get the pipe to my welder in the next couple of days and get it out together. Should have this motors chassis assembled this weekend then I have to run the wiring and should be able to test this bad boy out!
What do you guys think? Go all black or should I go chrome? I have both black engine paint and chrome header paint just not sure yet.
Straight on shot.

Greetings:

Black engine paint won't stay black for long. BBQ paint might have a chance, maybe.

Thanks guys! I'm leaning a little more towards the black as well since the whole chassis will be black and white as well. As soon as I get her welded up I'll be updating my MINISTROKER thread with the body build pics and a full assembly! Stay TUNED my friends!!

There should be a tip on there curtis. It will direct the exhaust to a single outlet and help the flow. You can try it both ways but I always noticed a difference on quads and dirt bikes when the silencer was missing the outlet. Also a lot more noise. The perforated area should be wrapped in fiberglass and pipe end installed.
Also when people say the pg and scorp is not a true chamber style they are half correct. Yes it has a chamber, but the wave dynamics are not as efficient as a true chamber to a stinger style.

Nice, I've never used a side bleed. I wonder how the power delivery will be on a 72cc. I imagine it's going to be a very unique pipe with a really good mid to top end with slightly slow initial delivery. You'll probably have to treat it like a big chamber pipe and roll on the throttle rather than flooring from a dead stop. Pg and Scorps are good for being able to dead stop floor them due to the internal stinger but now it's modified. It's going to be pretty sweet I'm sure.
