Here it goes, a few years ago I was looking for a fun little Spree or moped that I could ride around town. I talked to some people and was able to get a Spree for free. The only problem was it was missing a lot of parts and pieces. The Air Filter box is gone, the seat is gone, the rear plastic panels are gone, The exhaust is gone, and the tires are Flat! I guess you kinda do pay for what you get. javascript:emoticon('')
Rolling Eyes

I've tested it a couple of times and was able to get it started and ride it about 5 feet, But its outs like a weed whacker on crack! But any way I want to fix it up. I was thinking about doing some mods to it and see how it works. I was thinking about taking a Motorcycle exhaust and mounting it to the pipe, Fixing the tires, Adding a K&M Filter to the Air intake, building a seat, and Making custom metal rear side panels. javascript:emoticon('')
Twisted Evil

My issue is the fact that it hasn't been running in quite a few years, and I know it hasnt been kept up on, so What can I do to recondition it? Oil change, Lube, anything else?

first off, dont run without an exaust, your better of getting a stock pipe or buying a speedpipe from noiseguy, the k&n filter is overrated, it works for some people but not for others, you also will have to upjet, to get it running change all of your fluids ( oil, gas, trans ). and clean your carb!!! also run some seafoam in the gas to further clean your carb, cheack compression ( anythingk under 100 is bad ) and deacarbonize your head and exaust port ( it night not look like it needs it, but i did it and my spree wiht 45+ ) new spark plug, make sure your coil wirte is good and not cracked, and check for rigs, rigs are bad. and thats about it.

OK - here's some advice. You're actually starting much further ahead of where I started.

I started with a spree that was a parts bike without any parts on it.

And all that is original to my spree now is the frame, the wheels, and the gas tank (which is slated for replacement).

You actually have a spree that runs.

For starters, DON'T RUN IT ANYMORE. You will burn out your rings if you don't have an exhaust on it. It's not good to run a 2-cycle engine without an exhaust.

Step 2: restore the bike to perfect operating condition mechanically, so that it is running like a watch. You can buy the missing parts off here or you can score them on eBay. Here is usually a little cheaper, eBay is more reliable, in that most items that you need are probably already listed.

Step 3: At this point, I would suggest that you look at whatever mods that you want to do. It is REALLY stupid to mod a bike that is not running well. It will be almost impossible to tune, if you can get it running at all.

Step 3A: Choose mods that will actually make a difference.
1) Noiseguy's "speed pipe"
2) A "Pully Mod"
3) Port the exhaust
3) Shave the head for more compression, and then run a cooler spark plug.

I would suggest that you skip the K&N intake. It's quite complicated because you will have to re-jet the carb. This is not a trivial matter, and the performance gains are marginal at best. The spree seems to like its stock intake more than any other one.

Ok there is one problem, The Original Intake is missing. I dont really care about the Proformance upgrade of the K&N filter just the fact that i need some sort of filter on it and already have a K&N filter.

I do like the mod ideas and i agree with the "no mods till its running" bit that was said.

I'm really looking for this spree to be a little jet around town scooter, and if all goes according to plan i'll be all set on that aspect.

Do you know any websites with modified Spree pictures? I'm trying to get some visual ideas...

If the old intake is missing, just buy a new intake/ rear fender /filter from eBay. They go for around $15+shipping.

Sorry, should have quoted and agreed.

I seriously meant to say "MySpree said the truth. Pay attention!"

:)

Polished intakes? How's that work? The tube between the stock airbox and the carb, or a whole new airbox, etc.?
