dont have bill of sale can I licence?????

OK let me see where to start, I'm a noob to the forum, I live in Michigan near Lansing, and I recently got a Old 1984 Honda NQ50 from a friend of a friend. It's in rough shape and needs a lot of work, but I plan to fix it up and use it around town. My problem is the fact that I don't have the bill of sale seeing as it was given to me and the person I got it from.

I'm wondering if there is any way to get it licensed, or am I screwed?

Isnt that illegal?? Not that i really care at this point.
