Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

I bought this little scoot and it ran great for a few days. Now it will fire right up and idle but when you give it gas or try to go up an incline it feels like it is either starving for fuel or flooding out. This is my first Honda two-smoker... where do I begin to look for the problem?

The Spree is unbelievably sensitive in the intake area. Make sure the air filter foam is in place, the air filter lid has a non-leaking gasket, make sure the air filter lid has the hold-down screw in place and that nobody has drilled holes in the air filter box. Make sure the intake rubber elbow in correctly in place. Make sure the bystarter lifts and drops with temperature change. I know none of that should have any effect on drivability, but it does on a Spree.
I am assuming that you have already thoroughly cleaned the carburetor and fuel tank and that they are perfectly spotlessly clean.
Spree's are a ton of fun to ride, they run great but they are also very sensitive and everything needs to be perfect.

Thanks for the info! I really haven't checked anything yet. Being unfamiliar with the little beast I wanted to get some input from those in the know. I'm assuming everything is pretty straightforward as it is on the four stroke Honda's but I must admit, I don't understand all I know about the bystarter. Must be some voodoo or witchcraft involved there. Sounds like a Brit snuck into Honda's engineering department when that rascal was thunk up.
