1987 Honda elite at 37 mph. More speed, possible?

Hello everyone, I've recently installed a 65cc malossi big bore kit in my 1987 Honda Elite 50/ SE50 (Engine: AF05E). It hasn't done much for speed but the power is definitely there. It'll hold up at 35 mph/56 kph going uphill no problem and will even wander up to about 37 mph/59.5 kph on a flat surface. I was hoping to squeeze out as much speed as I can from my scoot and was hoping to keep it at a steady 42 mph/67.6 kph. I'm already looking into getting a new final drive gear from ScooterSwapShop.com but unfortunately their out of performance mufflers. If any one knows for sure what I can do to get more speed I'd greatly appreciate the info. Thanks.

The 47mm Malossi kit works out to 65ccs, not 72, with the shorter-stroke AF05 crank. That said, you should already be going faster then 37 on the flats. My first Aero 50 ran 37 bone-stock. Something isn't right, and I don't think it's just gearing. Check compression first because it's easy. Then check everything else from the air filter to the exhaust pipe.

I had and aero50 when I was 14-16 years of age. Mine went that fast stock. It would blow all the other scooters off the road at that time. Good thing I did not race a Jog or CA50 or my dreams would have been crushed. Anyways wheel is right and something seems off a bit. You must remember that just because you bolt on a BBK does not mean your going to get a lot of top end gains. You should still be going faster than you are now so I would check the belt and rollers for wear. You need to install gears before you install the any pipe in my opinion. Gears are 70% of the upgrade for top end and the cheapest way to get there. If you just run a pipe and BBK and want to cruise at higher speeds thats going to be hard on the engine without a gear ratio added to your set up.

Just checked my compression and it's only at about 50psi, I'm hoping I did something wrong while performing the test. That being said my exhaust pipe is slightly warped as a result of losing the bolts after not securely tightening them, It ran like that for 2 weeks before I could get them replaced. It could be pulling on the cylinder which might be causing a compression leak. The filter is new and I've actually lost some speed by replacing the carb (the original carb was leaking) but I'll chalk that up to tuning. The cylinder and the piston are both fine I checked them after doing the compression test. I also have an Odometer atached to my scooter and it'll top out the flats at 8600 rpm~35 mph and earlier today going downhill I reached 9000 rpm~38 mph.

Well if it is starting it is deff not 50. Your compression tester is broke.
Where is the exhaust warped? Where the header pipe meets the exhaust mani? There is suppose to be a doughnut in between those.
Wait for the gears and then you will see the top end you desire. You might need to adjust your rollers but other than that you should be fine.
What carb are you using? What size jets are in the replacement carb?

once the ex flange is bent its near impossible to get it right again, as it gets weaker and weaker the more you fiddle with it. Might try a flat gasket instead of a donut type. Leaky ex gaskets are a huge contributer to lean, and seizing motors.
The flange isn't whats bent it's the the pipe that leads the the expansion chamber that's slightly warped, so when the exhaust pipe is attached to the cylinder the holes on the case don't line up by about 1/8" maybe less. So I have to pull the flange and the expansion together slightly to make thread the bolt on the case.

Mounting that pipe under tension is a Really Bad Idea. It twists the cylinder, can break the flange, and makes getting a good pipe/cylinder seal very challenging. Maybe take a file and enlarge/ovalize the case mounting holes for tension-free alignment?

I've had a similar problem w a bent factory pipe. I was able to bolt it on, but the pressure wiggled the bolts out anyway. I'm saving up for a new pipe now haha.
