Trying to figure out why my 89 pal bogs out when its raining.
Thanks in advance for any answer to solve this problem I have.

Had mine do that too cuz my air filter got all wet

Does your "Pal" have a pod filter that is exposed ?
That would allow the rain to get into the fuel system and bog the engine.

Yea, my guess is the rain water makes it run lean. Probably not a good idea to get water inside the motor, or run lean. : )))

Im like 100% certain that a combination of the rain running my spree lean with an mix of the oil pump being loose killed the motor in my bike. I was trying to race home bombing it down a massive mountain, not an hill literly I live on the side of a mountain and I was easily doing 50? (Stupid fast) and it was over revving and running lean and I shut the throttle and it went kapoot. So based off what your experience and mine I would say Bones is on it. Just make sure your wheel fender is there and that your filter is not aimed towards it.

"Lean" is incorrect. Yes it'll lose power if not stall altogether, but not because it's lean. Water vapor and mist displaces some of the air/oxygen that the engine is supposed to inhale. The fuel metering is unchanged. Same fuel, less O2 = it runs Rich. Check your temps and spark plug after that rainy ride to confirm.

It's like you were actually inside of the cylinder.
Your keen insight has helped us who can not yet travel to those places.
Personally, I don't like riding in the rain.

Just remember that the terms "Rich" and "Lean" refer to the ratio of Fuel to Oxygen, and nothing else. Cold air is denser, and packs more O2 into a given volume. So does dry air. Both of these tend to cause a Lean condition, and are the reason my scooter feels so much more frisky on the rare winter days here when the temps are low. Hot and humid (rainy mist) air both reduce the O2 per unit volume, and so there's comparatively more fuel being sucked into the case. That's Rich.

Adding Oil displaces Fuel, so while it's tempting to think of the resultant mixture as "Rich", in fact it causes the mixture ratio to become more Lean. Less Fuel...

And running down a mountainside on a Spree spinning at 60% above manufacturer's intended RPM range will seize an engine whether the mixture is Lean or Rich, especially on a closed throttle.

I figured it had that honda vtec forever rev.

I wipe down my spark plug cord, then when it gets wet, it starts to bog.

Getting water in your carb is one thing, but the most obvious is getting water on your spark plug and that's why mopeds are equipped with rubber splash guard..it prevents water getting to your spark plug.
This splash guard is located right in front of your spark plug, connected to your mudflaps..people disregard this part because it gets in the way when fixing their bike..not knowing it helps keeps water splash away from the spark plugs.

Just dry ur motor out and u can ride again...next time ride slow when it rains lol funny but its true..
