Hey guys, Im in Japan and i just fitted a new CDi unit which i highly recommend doing. Its given me some insane torque right through the rev range especially down low where it was lacking. Anyway, the instructions where all written in Kanji (japanese) and i cant understand the 4 settings it has?
Heres a picture of it, it has 4 maps? Why do they have 4, i put it on number 2 but should i put on one? I dont understand what they are for.

Would i expect to gain more if i switched to number 1. Would there be any drawbacks?

It looks like Map 1 is a really advanced timing (high torque low rpm) Map 4 the timing is retarded (low torque high rpm) Map 2-3 is a happy medium. If you advance the timing all the way you have to use high octane fuel and dont run it long at high revs. Advanced timing WILL melt your piston at some point. If your doing alot of light to light driving then Map 1 wont kill ya', if not 2 or 3 is good. If your doing long distance driving then 4 will give you high end power and good gas milage.
Hope this helps.

If you do try to run full advance, run a colder spark plug to keep from damaging a piston. On two cycles, you always try to run the coldest plug.
