Engine runs fine but dies

Okay, I got the engine running but now have a different problem. When I kick-start or electric start the scooter, it fires up and runs immediately. However, it dies down after about 5 seconds. If I try to start it subsequently, it dies sooner and sooner until it won't run at all. Then I have to wait a matter of hours, and the process repeats itself.
The fuel lines & carb can't be clogged because I just cleaned them. And anyway, the engine runs fine for the ~5 seconds up until it dies.
It's also probably not the choke, since that kicks in over the course of a few minutes, rather than seconds.
Any ideas?

No good...I just installed a new bystarter and the same thing happens.

i have the same problem but my spree wil run and idle fine for about a minute. i found some good info in the service manual (avail. in the tech docs) on testing the bystarter, and enrichment circuit of the carb. maybe the float and or needle valve is stuck.

That's a good idea, I wondered if it could be the float valve. But I tested the float & needle valve yesterday and they work fine. Do you think I could be running way too rich or lean?

I don't think its a lean/rich problem. The screw adjustment is for idling, to adjust the lean rich on mine it has notches on the main needle where the c clip is 1lean 2norm 3rich 4richer (from top to bottom) I know you probably sick of people telling you to clean the carb, and maybe you have but have you blown out all of the "circuits" with compressed air. I cleaned my carb over and over blasting all the holes with carb cleaner, but that didn't work i just took my carb to my dads house and blasted every hole w/ a rubber tipped nozzle. I could hear crap flying out (could have been residual gas/cleaner) but thats what it took. Now it runs fine, finally. If you checked everything; bystarter, automatic fuel valve, clean lines&tank.
Maybe your fuel valve. did you try applying vacuum to the bottom of the valve to see if fuel flows freely out the other line. disconnect the lines going to the carb and intake suck (be careful i dont know if a faulty one may send gas down the vacuum line) on the line that came off the intake and have a can or something ready to catch fuel from the other line that came off the carb.
