Low compression.

Alright guys so with the help of everyone on this forum (ultraliner in particular) I finally figured out my ignition issue. With this being said the scoot still would not start. I found my compression was at about 60 PSI. I had a feeling it was not good anyway so i tore it down to further inspect. I personally do not know how to tell if there are visual signs of worn rings or anything. I am not sure how to attach images to this post but can send via text or email if anyone is interested. :newb: I am planning to purchase the 48mm big bore kit from user Taz i believe. Since I am already doing all this work what other upgrades could I perform for better performance? ex: carb, exhaust, gears, etc. I would like to make the scoot as fun as possible. Also I believe I need a new gasket for my reed valve. Does anyone know where to find them? should the whole valve be replaced instead? Thanks in advance for the help everyone!

Look for scratches and see if your fingernaik catches in the scrat h if so then it needs a rehone or rebuild. If you are going for speed look for a stock af16 motor with exhaust, carb, and airbox with wheel and all. You will spend the same on that as doing the upgrades to a unvaraibled engine. Takes one drled hole through the frame to relocate the shock mount and enlarging the oginal motor hole mount and cutting the sa50 mount to fit the spree frame. Very easy but time consuming if you have rudimentary tools like I do.

Yeah man the 48mm BBK from Taz is totally worth it, been running one of these on mine for the last couple of months and the increase in power is great ;)

As Mr J suggests, if mad speed is your thing then go down the road of the AF swap, but if you want to keep the existing setup then grab Taz's kit and throw it on. You'll need to clean up the sharp edges(if any)on the cylinder ports. If they are sharp they can cause the rings to not ride over the ports nicely or scrape valuable lubricating oil off the side of the piston causing problems(credits to Wheelman)

I've not long received some AF18 carb parts and reed block gaskets from www.megazip.net and they were very legit to deal with. Have a browse and see if they have what you need ;)

I am definitely going to order the 48mm kit tomorrow. I am not about "mad speed" considering I already wrecked pretty badly stock haha but I am looking for an increase from the existing setup. Ultra, is there anything else I should do at the same time? exhaust? Jet? and when it comes to sharp ports would honing fix the problem?

If you get the 48mm kit, install the jet that comes supplied, do the airbox lid mod and break in as per Taz's instruction you shouldnt have any problems. I used a 20mm chassis punch for the Airbox lid and it's worked out fine ;)

The cylinder comes supplied honed but some of the cylinder ports can be sharp. These really need to be rounded off to get the max life you can out of it. Check out the pics on the last page of my topic and you'll see what I mean

Alright the BBK has been ordered! as well as a new headlight and full gasket set with everything my newb heart could desire. Seems like Taz is a seasoned ebayer considering it was shipped probably an hour after I paid. I am very excited to slap this baby back together and see how it feels. Should I notice an increase in power? also I read your post on the sharp edges on the ports and see what you mean now. No big deal to take care of but will definitely be inspecting upon arrival. As I'm sure you know I will more than likely have questions after putting everything together and knowing this scoot there will be further issues haha I'll keep ya posted
