So I text this guy asking the model and year. He replies: 50 spree year? Not sure if he doesn't know the year, or that they even have model years. It looks like an Elite to me, but I'm no expert. Can anybody tell me what it is from the pictures? Certainly not a very skilled Craigslist seller.

Its an 88'-newer Elite 50. Read the stamp on the rear of the motor, just back from that round looking thing with holes in it (clutch bell). If it reads AF05e then its 88-93....if it reads AF16e its a 94-newer.

Seller sounds fishy... ask him how he got the bike; may have gotten it from flaky roommate or some such and know nothing about it. I have a hard time believing something that stickered up would be stolen and selling on CL b/c it's too easy to ID.

Not familiar with WI title/reg on 50cc scooters. If it needs a title make sure he has it.

For $100 a good deal... worth taking a look even if un-titled for parts.

G9 right. It's an elite S. You can see the unmistakable yellow S on the first pic. Its 94-01 with af-16. U can tell by the half kicker case also.

Theres a guy near me selling a 2001 Elite SA50....but what the ad doesn't say is that its has an AF05 swapped into it.

My point: Still check the motor stamp to know what youre getting. Don't just buy it assuming it has an AF16 just because the color is purple.

Now why on Earth would you DOWNGRADE your engine?

Imagine you have a CHERRY 88' Elite with an AF05 in it...Also you have this heap POS with an AF16

Makes sense to put the AF16 into the cherry bike and KEEP it....then drop the AF05 into the heap POS and sell it to some poor chap.

Really tho..the AF05 isn't a bad motor. It does have a slightly shorter stroke than the AF16. Also, there isn't as many aftermarket parts available. Certainly the AF16 is the superior mill but they are much harder to find in my area. I think the East Coast took em all.

Thats still a deal never the less 100 bucks for just the wheels, pipe, trans parts, and all the other savage parts off it to help fund the build up of the motor then buy yourself a cherry sa50 to put the powerplant in.

Just picked it up, just couldn't not do it. It's a 2000 SA50PY with 7300 miles on the clock. Hope I can use more than the left rear turn signal lens that I needed. Haven't tried it yet, but it supposedly runs. No title.

Ide make sure it isnt stolen first take the vin to the dmv and tell them you want to buy it and thats the vin and if comes back stolen then you can give the bike up or lie which is illegal and strip it and trash the frame and make profit off the parts. But thats illegal and immoral.
