Altered port timing?

I'm fairly new to two stroke motors.
My boss was telling me back when he was young, they used to alter the port timing on two stroke scooters. He said they used to shave the width of a hacksaw blade off the bottom of the piston skirt, and gain more power.
Do you reckon this might work on a honda? I have a lathe at my disposal, and I could shave a few thou off the skirt easy peasy.

Whadaya think?

Spree's are a sump intake... shaving the piston skirt wouldn't do anything.

If you want to play with port timing you'll need to vertically enlarge the exhaust and intake ports.

As a first shot, I'd widen the exhaust port a bit at the piston and open up the exhaust channel to the pipe.

Use the lathe to remove .015 - .020" from the head instead...
