Sunny day, warm, snow melting, an Elite 50 doing 60mph......

Post by islandbayy »

Well, what a nice day today (before the rain).

Finally got my Elite 50 out of my basement and on the road.

Pressed that button, fired right up with my new 72cc bore kit, pully mod, 1000rpm spring, and transmission mod.

First off, strapped on my Wrist GPS to use as my Spedo as I burried my built in spedo quite quickly.

First ride, 0-50 in 2 city blocks, not sure on exact distance on that, forgot to reset my GPS distance meter to measure exact mileage.

I think 0-50 not so bad in 2 blocks. Usted to take 3 blocks to get to 40mph.

Next test, took it for a 3 mile ride around the area, varying the speed to give it a wee bit of a break in.
Returned home

I had wired my oiler wide open, and was also told by VT cycles to premix also. So I added just a tad of oil to my gas.

Next ride, rode down about 4 miles, varying speed again, and entered expressway :D

This is a slow part ofthe expressway before getting to the airport, so speed limit was only 40mph (just in case of problems and top speed issues).

Got er up to 59mph with no problems, no virbration, and was quite quiet.

Not going to push it at top speed like that for at least another 100-300 miles once it starts breaking in. Just wanted to give er a go.

Also, my gas tank was very low (probially .3 gallons) and loaded with a entire can of Seafoam.

That could be the reason I didnt break 60mph.

Oh well, It was AWESOME!

Took my elite on the MAIN expressway yesterday.

All I can say is... w0w @_@

No problem keeping up with traffics at all. And in many cases, was passing the cars :)

Did feel much safer on highway though, then I do on the street.
On the highway, everyone stayed away from me. Noone tried cutting me off nothing, great ride.

As soon as my gps spedo battery died, and I got off the highway, Within 10 minutes I almost got nailed 5 times by cars and trucks. Not looking, on the d*** cellphone, illegal turns, going through lights.

Had many close calls on the way home. I just dont feel safe driving on city street anymore at all :O(

72cc bore kit
pulley modification, new weights, new belt
New 1,000rpm clutch spring.
transmission modification with 8 to 1 gear ratio. Wish their was a higher ratio, as I dont care the least about pickup power, just top speed.

I also blend my own special Transmisison fluid. I have a non-contact thermometer, and with my own transmission fluid blend, my transmission stays aprox 35-40 cooler. (If anyone wants some, I sell it. Enough for 2 transmission drains and flushes, I charge $10/qt)

What else..... I lost 20lbs, oh, waxed my bike, thats got to count for somthing.

yea thats pretty similar to what ive got.

72cc bore
8:1 trans gears
r1 exhaust
high speed pulley
i think ive got 9g roller weights installed right now, i just installed whatever came with the pulley. ive got 1000 rpm compression spring, and then 2000 rpm clutch springs.

are you using the stock carb? are you running premix now? what clutch springs and compression spring are you using? and what roller weights are you using? thats a pretty good top speed. ive only got about 20 miles on my engine so im taking it easy. but i havent gone over about 40.

Stock carb with a i think 90 main jet they gave me? Good you asked, forgot about the main jet. I believe stock was 69.

Since I have a Iowa bike, I had to wire the oiler wide open.

I also do premix. Very lite premix though, and I do a blend. I have a small 1 oz bottle, orignally for lawnmower oil, but I drained it and use it to mix my oil for my elite. It's enough for 1 gallon of gas, so I always keep it full, so I will be able to fill up at any station.

Anywho, heres what I do, I do 1/2 oz of Honda Lube, and 1/2 Seafoam. As seafoam is a lubricant (not oil replacment, but still lubes).

Between the 1/2oz oil, and my wide open oiler, i feel comfortable. Since I have so much oil going through my system, the Seafoam keeps the oil from gumming up my carb, and keeps the extra oil deposits down.

I believe I have 8oz weights, not sure, they were in the package with the new pulley. I may put 9oz. Did you notice a difference between them?

The only spring I changed was the 1000rpm compression spring. didnt touch anything else.

Are you saying you cant get it over 40? or keeping it that low until it;s broken in?

I am going to "try" (Yah right, it's too tempting) to keep it under 40 also.

ive been tryin not to go full trottle. if i do its just for a second. ive had it up around 40, but it accelerates really slow. and i have to rev it pretty high to get it to take off due to the clutch spings i think. vt told me to put in a 1500 rpm compression spring in to keep it from dropping off before i reach my top speed. and im going to put 1000 or 1500 clutch springs in so i dont have to rev it as high to take off. then ill have to play around with the roller weights. ive heard that heavier people should use lighter roller weights and lighter people should use heavier. i weigh around 200 so im probably going to go a little lighter with the roller weighter. hopefully i can hit 60 also.

That would give more power correct? Dont really want power, really want more top speed.

7:1 is more top end, less power, and 5:1 is even faster

only if your motor can push you and your ped with that gearing. Taller gearing does not necessarily mean faster.

Man I have a 1994 Elite 50...(dio) but am so god darn retarded that I dont know how to do ANY of what you guys talk about on here lol. I'm 210 pounds and mine will only go about 27 on the flats with me. With all this talk about mods for the dio etc I wish I knew what I was doing to at least improve it to get me to 35-40. I feel dumb lol.
