stock fast pipe, stock slow pipe?

Post by hemlockz »

My SE50 came with the pipe above on top, it did not have a washer and was not an iowa model. It just had a skinny pipe all the way down to the muffler. Supposedly some states had a stock fast pipe for the SE50, like in the picture on the bottom.

Top one almost looks like a Spree muffler.

Interesting... what's the outer diameter of the pipe at the muffler, and the inner diameter at the jug for the bottom pipe?

I'll betcha the top pipe ID is 19mm.... that's what the Spree is. 25mm is a better size for a 50cc.

I got it from this page, they try to explain it... http://www.scootertherapy.com/headpipepage.html I have the muffler on top with the skinny pipe that came on my 87 SE50. Then just yesterday I bid on a pipe on Ebay that said it was also from an 87 SE50 but looks like the pipe on the bottom. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0061296392

Very soon I will have both styles in my posession and will measure them.

Thats not really the point... SE50 is just what I have, and the picture above is not mine. It was taken from the website referenced above.

What I am trying to say is that my se50 has the skinny pipe, and the ebay auction for an SE50 has the fast pipe, or what appears to be.

Did you notice any difference between the two pipe, or did you have a different setup besides just changing the pipes?

I'm wondering if we wouldn't get some good gains by creating a downpipe with a 25mm ID to replace the stock downpipe on an otherwise stock muffler assembly. I don't have access to a 1" pipe bender (or any other bender for that matter,) or I'd weld one together myself.

Hey, why don't you enlighten us on building basic speed... since you already left a steamy coil on my thread its the least you could do.
