Should I be going faster?

Hey all, I recently got an '86 spree for free that had been through three teenagers and hadn't run in seven years. It started up the second day I had it and I've been running it around a bit. I know I will need to clean the carb yet and will be doing that soon, but I'm on average only hitting 28MPH top speed (I haven't found a straight long enough to let me keep accelerating, but I think that's it).

Is this normal for a stock Spree? I saw someone mention removing the clutch restrictor plate and the exhaust restrictor somewhere. Will this give you much more power and how would you do it?

Thanks

Put some foam carb cleaner through my carb, let it soak for awhile, etc and I gained 3Mph just doing that. I'm now easily getting up to 31Mph and takeoffs are quicker with much more available low end power. Before I did this I would have to start up my Spree ten minutes before I wanted to ride and rev it up like crazy to get it running well enough. Now I just kick it and go.

I know, simple thing but I never would have figured it would give such a boost

Nope, just shot it in from the air cleaner while it was runnning (you have to have it at full revs during that or it'll die) and then let it sit for 15 minutes. Taking the carb apart, etc, would be much more thorough I'm sure, but this is quick and easy

If you lay off the Little Debbies you'd get more top end.
