What's up ya'll,
Currently working on replacing the piston with one I ordered from chopchop on ebay, however when I go to pull out the cylinder it gets stuck on what I assume are the rings. The cylinder is able to be lifted about 1/4" to 1/2" off the mating surface before it gets too tough to pull off smoothly. Any pro tips for removing this thing without jacking the cylinder surface up (assuming its not jacked already lol)? It's my first time doing a piston replacement so I appreciate the help!

Why are you replacing the piston?

Good question, I was getting low compression and the performance was super sluggish at low speeds, I honestly wasn't able to get it up to full speed at all. Eventually I couldn't get it to turn over. I figured the rings were worn out and needed replacing. I finally was able to work the cylinder and piston out though, doesn't look so nice!

yeah my thoughts exactly, think it's worth taking the cylinder in to get machined or should I look around for a replacement?

Having it bored would raise the issue of trying to find an oversized piston for it. Youre more likely to find Jimmy Hoffa than one of those. If youre hellbent on restoring the Spree motor to it’s former glory, I recommend…buying a good used OEM Spree bore from someone on these forums or Ebay or ? Hone it and put the chopchop slug in it.
FYI: you can save some cash by buying a ball hone for less than $20 on ebay. Watch some youtube videos, use a cordless drill and hone it yourself. I do mine inside of a big cardboard box so it doesnt sling oil everywhere. Tip: dont buy the 3-arm hone piece of junk…get a ball hone.
