Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

I know this is a common problem, but I've searched the threads and have come up wanting.

I have a 1984 Spree that was so neglected the drivetrain had over a cup of sand in it and the starter and pinion had to be rebuilt. (rusted)

I cleaned the carb -- twice. It starts like a gem, but can't take any throttle.

I've tried with and withou exhaust and air filter -- no difference.

If it is still the carb, where exactly is this "idle jet" I keep hearing about from Noiseguy. Is that the idle screw?

Carb jet required removing the bowl, which requires removing the carb.

Also, this *could* be a vacuum leak. Make sure the little brown plastic bit (thermal isolator) is turned the right way and that the carb and manifold don't have leaks. For example, you do have a bystarter, right? And an air filter element?

It was the carb. There are two small orafaces -- one from the top, and one from the bottom right by the main jet. (The one from the bottom has a small tube right next to the main jet.)

I soaked it, blew it, but it would not open. Finally, I sacrificed my second smallest guitar string, made a 6" probe with the lower end and methodically probed the holes with a slight twisting action. 30 minutes later after probing, spraying and blowing -- success.

She runs great -- almost. Just one wierd problem, which I will post under a new topic.

See manual... rubber o-rings should not be touching on reassemble. There's a small arrow on the brown decoupler that will be on outside, pointing to front.

i know this question has already been answered. but for future searching purposes

mine was flooding out real bad. it had a chunk of baffle or somthing jammed in the muffler hole. so i took a coat hang and jammed it in there while it was running and reving it up, and chunks of crap just kept flying out. made it run great. exhaust port could also be carboned almost shut
