TPR 86cc Hyper Race cylinder on Kymco vertical cases

Post by oldgeek »

Hi guys,
It's been a while since I have been around. I took a couple years off from scootering because of health reasons, but I have rekindled the 2 stroke spirit. I wanted to show a build I have been working on lately. I actually started on the idea several years back but it never transpired, until now. I have adapted a TPR 86cc Hyper race cylinder meant for a horizontal Minarelli to a set of Kymco ZX vertical cases. It required a special crank shaft and a few other tricks to happen. The TPR cylinder requires a crank with a 44mm stroke, so I used a 44mm mini stroker crank. However the con rod on the 44mm crank is too short by about 10mm to work with the TPR cylinder. I found a 91mm Pro-x rod and swapped it to the 44mm stroke crank, added a base spacer and a case spacer and it set up perfect. It has been running for a while now with a PG long pipe that I adapted to fit it. Currently I have an expansion chamber pipe I have fitted and am trying to tune. This cylinder should turn 14K no problem but so far the best I have seen is 12.5k. Lots of more stuff to come.

This is too cool for school! I'm trying to figure out what gears you would run in this with the 12" wheels? What clutch and what belt and how fast have you got that thing roll'in so far? Thank you for sharing this and your secret to making it work!!! Oh, Which frame are you on there? The Kymco?

So I am running stock Kymco ZX gears, 10.64, They are pretty much the only option available besides some ridiculously tall gears. I am running a Polini for race 3G clutch and a Malossi 6113501 belt. The frame is a Kymco ZX stripped of body panels. Top speed is only around 65 MPH but it is quick. The stage 6 pipe is likely a bit too much for it. The PG long pipe was surprisingly good, but would only rev to 10-11K I am told this cylinder likes 14K so I am trying to get it there with no luck so far.

Awesome setup with everything except the gears which I heard could still be available in Europe somewhere? Maybe in the 7:1 or 7.5:1 range? The big thing is the cylinder port timings has you limited to your rpm even with the S6 pipe, maybe get that ported to suit the S6 exhaust timings. Still with the 10.6 gears it must already be a wheelie machine! Here's what I would do. You can contact a buddy of mine in Hawaii who does porting for a lot of guys. He is also on Facebook. He can port that for you - just give him the crank, gear, tire size and exhaust pipe info and the rest you can adapt. PM me for the info to contact my buddy about porting. This dude is a real scooter drag racer and record holder. He may also be able to help find you a set of gears for the Kymco ZX? Oh, by the way, I am looking for a new or used PG Long? or Short, so if you still live in the USA, and want to sell that one, then just let me know!
