picked up this 1984 Honda Aero 50 off of FB Marketplace on the cheap. Looks like previous owner deleted the oil pump and was using premix, buncha 'capped' off hoses, Was running fun for about a week and now it's reving on its own when started up. checked the throttle cable for kinks and it still revs even with throttle cable disconnected. Is there just some massive air leak I need to hunt down or something obvious i'm missing.

Recheck the oil pump plug is completely sealed at all temperatures and RPM's. This is the best place to start. Then check every hose that is "capped" and every other place where it is suspect. Also you could replace all hoses and test the carburetor mounting and air box mountings to be sure only "filtered" air is entering the motor. Must have an "oil-soaked" filter installed in the air box. Test exhaust pipe connection to cylinder. Do not ride it until it is fixed. And make sure the oil to fuel ratio is correct (32:1) :thumbwink:

Most certainly those sheet-metal screws are NOT sealing the hoses they're inserted into. Suspect that sealed off bystarter is not doing you any favors. I'd be changing a lot of that mess back to stock if it were me.
