I’ve been loving my Honda Spree for 5 years, but when I’m not tinkering with it, you’ll probably find me flying RC planes. There’s something about the thrill of speed and mechanics that ties both hobbies together!
Unsurprisingly, my hobby is fixing broken stuff. Right now I've got a 100 year old industrial leather sewing machine on my workbench waiting for me to fab a part.
Over the years, hobbies come and go.
Combining scooter riding with visits to cemeteries has long been a hobby that gives me
a chance to be quiet and reflect. The stones will tell stories that can be sad.
I find some stones will have poetry, some bible verses.
There's never any drama going on, only peaceful surroundings.
I find humor sometimes in the names, and smile.
Nobody has ever questioned my presence.
On a few occasions, I've actually met relatives that up until then were unknown to me.
Also have found relatives at rest that upon some research reveal some interesting connections to the past.
This seemingly weird hobby all started when I was very young, visiting the cemeteries in Tennessee
where relatives lie at rest, and the annual Memorial Day events led groups to gather and spend the day visiting.
We called it "decoration day". When i was about 10 years old, my uncle Carl worked at a cemetery in Decatur, IL.
For a few years, i would often go with uncle Carl on Saturdays and help with the mowing and trimming.
It was during those years that the love of scooters(and motorcycles) developed.
The caretaker of the cemetery kept a Cushman in the shed and would reward me with a few trips around the cemetery,
ME in full control of the Cushman and imagining that I was taking the checkered flag at Watkins Glen.
No other hobby has had the longevity of this cemetery hobby....motor
