When I start my moped it idles rough. When I give it a little gas it bogs down and dies. The other day I covered the air filter hose with a towel and was able to get the moped to run for a little while. But when I did this it also seemed to be burning a lot of oil(blue/black smoke came out of exhaust)
I have recently changed piston rings, piston, and jug. I have been cleaning the carburetor every time I get a chance to work on the moped.
It is a 1986 Honda Spree NQ50. Any suggestions?

Check your idle jet, it may be plugged.I just got an 85' Aero 50cc that the idle jet was clogged. It would start cold then as it warmed would not idle more than a few seconds and if given throttle would bog out.Very fine wire(small guitar string) will unplug it or get a set of carb wires.Joe

I took a small copper wire and ran in through both idle set, and the air jet screws... nothing but a little gas was on the end of the wire. I then tried to start the ped. Started like it has done before-- took off the air filter hose and put a towel to restrict some air and it seemed to idle better, then i gave it gas and it did not bog out... it didnt seem to run very smooth, but was able to give it gas with out it dying...
what else can can i do????

If you can stuff a rag in the carb and it still runs, you've got an air leak. Find out where and fix it b/f you kill your scoot.
