It depends. If you're not used to 2-cycle engines it might be more smoke than you're expecting. Yes, a 2-cycle scooter engine will always puff out a thin stream of blue smoke that gets a bit thicker when you lay on the throttle. On the other hand, if you have a dark blue cloud that follows you wherever you ride, then something's not right. :D

What kind of oil are you using? Crappy oil will smoke a lot more than quality oil.

What do you consider crappy oil? Also, I have just got it running after sitting for many years and it boggs out when riding. Not sure if it flooding, running out of gas or some other isssue. It will idle great and rev's nicely on the center stand. But when my son took off on it after a few seconds it started to die, no power.Feathering the throttle helped some.I opened the carb. bowl drain when this happened and lots of gas came out, so not sure if the float and or needle are an issue.Joe

Metal fuel tanks will form rust, use a flashlight and look for stuff floating, take off the fuel valve clean the filter and it should clear up.
Can't afford speed then stay away from it!

Also unless you clean the carb and tank, I'd recommend inserting a small mc filter in the fuel line form the tank to the carb to catch the stuff.

Remember to change it in 500 miles or if its weak again. The small mc filter will clog up.

If that doesn't work - I'd clean the tank filter.
