84 Spree bogging down

Post by Paul »

Just got an 84 spree/with (1200 miles) running after sitting for about 10 years. New air filter, carb cleaned?, and was having some trouble w/the bystarter. I put a 86 bystarter on it and ran the same way. I also cleaned the gas and oil tanks. Decarbonized the head, set the screws to what are recommended and the idle seems to run way to fast at 1-7/8 to 2 turns out.
I can accelerate slowly but boggs down at about 12-15 MPH and wants to stop running.
Any recommendations on getting it running properly.
Something in the carb still plugged or partially blocked?

Scooter had been stolen was running prior to and after being returned. The owner let it sit with the gas and oil in it.

Thanks.

I have an 85' Aero 50 with 1400 miles that is doing the exact same thing.Starts and idles great and will even rev up nicely in garage on center stand, but after taking off will bogg out and want to die.I was going to pull the head off to de-carbonize to see if it would help.Carb was cleaned and seems good.New plug and battery.I checked timing and it is right on the money.Hope someone helps us both out.

how is the airbox on your scooter? when i got mine there was no airbox so i was rigging up lawn mower filters, valve cover breathers whatever i could get my hands on so i could ride, but it was too much air and leaned out the scoot which caused the same problem you guys are describing. i'd put on the filter start it and rev it up on the stand, no problems. i'd hop on and blah couldn't get out of the driveway. once i got a stock airbox problem solved.

Air box on the 84 is good, and has new air filter, I might have to take the carb off again and clean it better. That's the only thing I can think of. Any suggestions on what solution to immerse it in for cleaning.

I used parts cleaner from the shop I worked at. I used it to clean my filter and it did a excellent job. I used a coffee can(Large) put the filter in and added parts cleaner untill it was about a inch above the filter , I put the top on and shaked it up and let it sit in there for 30 min then squeezed and blowed it dry with a air compressor then saturated the filter with oil and squeezed it out and it ran like a champ.
I bet you could use any degreaser
