Repairing tabs on side plastic panels-advice or tricks?

Post by eisen011 »

Hi. Thanks to this forum, my '85 Spree lives and is doing 35mph!
Now to make it pretty again...

The front tabs on the side panels (below the front of the seat) from the Spree broke off and have been held together with washers, yet the plastic is kinda cracked around that area too. I'd like to repair it properly since the washers really dont hold the panels in place any longer, unless I wrench it so tight the plastic cracks more. Does anyone have any tricks as to how to "refashion" or ghetto the front tabs so that they are strongly fastened together again? I read in a previous posts that plastic weld was the way to go, but then someone else advised against that for the side panels.
Any help is appreciated!
