How can I Jet my stock carb bigger? When doing so, should I use an after market air filter and remove the air box?

You have to replace the jet with a bigger one. And yes, if you add more gas you need to add more air or it won't burn right. Why do you want to put a bigger jet in it?

It's an SR model. Under the seat it says model SA50N-II. I was asking about the jetting because I'll be installing a 70cc kit (65cc) from Malossi and want to get the most from the stock carb.

I take that back. They have the CMR 64cc kit left.. It's listed as a 70cc kit.

Well, I opened up the air box and found no filter. Everything was very dirty so I took the carb off to give it a nice little cleaning. Got everything cleaned up and put a brand new filter on it. Now I can't get this thing to run right for the life of me. I've tried adjusting the air/fuel screw & the idle screw. At first it doesn't want to idle whereas before it would start without hesitation. Now I have to throttle it up a little to get it started the it will idle. I did a plug chop and it looked good. I don't know what else to do. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i think the biggest stock carb jet you can get is like a #90 and with a set up like that, your going to need at least a #100.. how do i know? I have set up bikes like that before, I dont recommend using the stock carb, the chances of it being lean is almost 100% . They make no pilot jets for them so its hard to tune the bottom and off the line. You can get the top end tuned , but you really need to play with it. Remember with out a filter , your bike is running lean right now. A helpful tip on tuning a stock bike, more airflow = lean, more airbox restriction=rich. good luck, its really hard to help you tune that without having to ride or hear it in person.
remember to ziptie your oil pump and add a few cap ful of oil into the gas just in case.

If you have a 92 elite you can't get gears for it so if you have a bore kit and hold the throttle you will blow! an SA-50p engine has several gear ratios to choose from so it will not blow
Can't afford speed then stay away from it!
