How hard is it to..

..install a bore kit from vtcycles? Also about how long would it take for the average person? When it comes time to replace my rings I'm thinking of upgrading to a 63 cc or maybe a 72cc kit and am curious on how hard it is to install for the average person who doesn't have any special tools or knowledge on replacing stuff. And to get the best out of this kit I'd have to buy the high speed pully kit and gram weights, right as I wouldn't have as much top end I'm thinking without it? What about a carb..could I get away with using a bigger jet on a stock carb. What about stock exhaust, is that a no-no? Would I have to get a different clutch spring? What about efficiency? With proper break in and proper running conditions(not running lean for the most part) do they last..at least a few thousand miles or do they have to be rebuilt alot more frequently than if it were stock?

just curious as I don't want to have to keep replacing this or that or get into something that isn't very efficient and also see how hard this is for someone who isn't the greatest at mechanics. I'm not completely sure on if I want to do this or not but would like to clear up some confusion as my buddy is trying to get a junk moped and wants to get a bore kit for it.

Thanks

ok so installing a bore kit is simple. tool wise, all you need is a '10mm socket' to get the 'head' off, then the 'cylinder' lifts off .the 'piston' will still attached. the 'piston' has a 'pin' going throw it holding it to the rod. on each side of the pin is 'clips', they can be taken out with a pair of needle nose pliers. then just reverse to put it back on. {below is a picture showing what is what}
Image

the all time hardest part of this is getting the piston with rings in the cylinder. its a pain and you can snap rings kinda easy. on the piston in the groves for the rings there is little 'pins' if you will. the opening on the rings have to close over that. i would play with your old cylinder , rings and piston as practice before you try it for real.

ok along the line of add ons...
new pipe-No, you will not need a new pipe, how ever if you get a 72cc you might want too think about it.
high speed pulley kit- Yes/no , you dont need it but it really helps allot.
new carb- No, i have a stock carb with my 63cc bore kit and it works fine. 72cc kit mabie but you should be good.
New jet- Yes, you have to.
different clutch spring- No, you dont need a new one with a 63cc but it helps allot, 72cc you might need too
efficiency- it should drop about 4-5 mpg but its worth it

will it last? that all depends on how you break it in. on my last bore kit i didn't break it in as long as i should have and had a heat seize. a heat seize will drop down the life on it some. i had 3 and mine lasted about 1000 miles. But they should last just as long as a stock cylinder with way better performance.

what do i have? glad you asked, i have a 92 elite with a 63cc bore kit. high speed pulley kit, 1000 rpm compression spring , stock pipe, stock carb, bigger jet. and a UNI pod air filter. i have about 165$ in parts and its amazing

Haha..now I'm confident lol

You even added a question I was going to add on gas mileage lol
I noticed with mine stock I've gotten 50 miles or so on a half tank riding with barely any throttle for the most part(like 1/10 which can get me going at 15-20mph) today so I should be getting around 80miles per tank compared to riding around full throttle most of the time getting like 64 miles per tank and almost running out last night..yes I put on some miles today 8)
imo I don't think my mpg is very high, but its still nice come fill up time
:D

Hmm..It's really tempting to order now..I'll probably go with the 63cc just because I would think it would hit the 43-47mph range and that would be more than fast enough with this little scooter

would the clutch spring help with take off, top end or both? I seen a video on youtube of a guy changing one and the sight of how much that spring needed to compress into the clutch scares that idea away from me as one screw up could lead to a problem.

I forgot to mention the uni filter..that would help on performance some..especially with a more powerful setup, I'm sure anyway, right?

when you get it broke in let me know your top speed..just curious is all
and thanks, that cleared some things up

ok, 2 things i didn't say before. you need some more tools to put the high speed pulley kit and center spring. you need an air compressor and a impact. for the center spring you need to take apart the clutch, you have to have huge * socket. to do this part you might want to take it some were. its all self explanatory you just have to have tools.

would the clutch spring help with take off, top end or both? - take off
the UNI pod filter justs lets more air though. and is said to help. im not sure to be honest. when i got my moped it didnt have a filter, thats why i got that. im not sure how much it helps.

what type of bike do you have?

Yeah, I was probobly going to have someone do the clutch for me and maybe the pully kit. I won't lie..I'd be scared to do the clutch springs lol. I don't have an impact wrench or a special tool to stop it from moving while I try to take everything off so thats my second reason..I still need to take off the restrictor on the front clutch because of this reason lol

I have a 98 Elite-S

Hey I think I posted that somewhere 8) I've already done that with the stock one took me from 21-22mph to 30-31mph...I just took off the metal restrictor on the front clutch and it now goes 35-36mph stock :D

There is something bothering me..I also replaced the belt while I had the front piece off..as the newer one was a tad bit wider which I heard used belts aren't as wide and can take away speed..I put everything back on but am bothed by what seems to be rubbing of some sort with throttle about 20 or 25mph..Once I let off it doesn't do it anymore :? Would that just be the new belt somehow or did I not assemble something right somehow? I made sure all of the weights or whatever were in their places in the clutch(whatever its called) and there was three things on the back piece that fit into the other piece..Then put the thing the belt sits on..then the pointy thingy, making sure it fit correctly with the teeth, added the washer and the nut and tightened it with the impact gun..I'm hoping its just the new belt..it does fit a bit tighter than the older one..not sure if that would be it

(edit) Should I add some oil at the gas tank now? I'm just wondering because of the higher speeds with the stock jet..remember everything is STOCK on this moped

couldnt hurt. just dont add to much. about 1/2 oz to one gallon

Any idea on what the rubbing feeling might be..at first I thought I bent one of my rims be then it would still do that after I let off of the throttle so it can't be that..It isn't bad but just worries me(I am very worry prone and always think the worst)..however, it does seem to stop once I give it a certain amount on the throttle.

I remember before doing this(changing the belt and removing the clutch restrictor tonight), the same amount of throttle would make some weird sound somewhere on the moped but once I gave it a certain amount it went away..I'm wondering if it has something to do with my clutch.

you end up getting a bore kit or anything?

its not to hard to put in. you just need some common tools and know how.

Not yet..I don't want to take it apart as I'm not very mechanically inclined. Plus, this motor is still running strong and has been running better and better..My gas milage has gone from 60-65 mpg to over 75..I still had a fair amount of gas in the tank but my buddy and I went for a ride and I thought it would be better to fill up because we didn't know where we were going and who knew where the next gas station would be. I might do it next year..I'd like to do it now but am scared of messing something up

i dont blame you.

Plus, whenever I mess with something that is working correctly I mess it up and it won't run correctly so I'm probably going to wait intill it needs new rings

no oil in the gas, the elite s has a big big oiler, it will die if u put oil in the gas.
