More Speed and Flat spots on roller
Hello again,
Honda elite 1997
So a couple weeks ago I took off the pulley and removed the plate that restricted the top speed of the moped. While the crank case was off and the pulley was off I looked at the rollers. It appeared that the rollers have flat spots on them from wear and tear. Should I replace these with new onces? What benefits would this give me? It does seem while riding right now it loses it acceleration for a 1/2 second around 25 mph then picks right back up to ~35.
here is a bad picture of the rollers. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v694/ ... img093.jpg
Second question, I am looking for more power mods I can perform on this moped with out breaking the bank. Here is what I have done to date. Bored out exhaust on header side, removed restricter plate on pulley. I do have some hills in my area and do all my riding in down town Grand Rapids MI (city diving). So it would be nice to have good top end but also not lose the low end take off for dealing with traffic. Can I change the CDI, pulleys, gears, exhaust? What is the first or best combination for bang for your buck. I don't mind reading up on things just point me in the right direction if you would.
Thanks for all your help,
Devin

a HP Variator, and a gear change (9:1)
from what i hear its about 100$ and will give you a much higher speed (close to 50, or higher if tuned.)
also you might want to drill a few holes in the air box to help the air flow. { if you drill the air box or/and bore the pipe you need to rejet. upjet one or two.
getting more flow you are running leaner, running lean you will burn up your motor. upgetting will put it back to normal.
Flat spots on rollers means it time to replace them, its not a big deal but it makes your take off choppy. after market rollers get flat spots fast, honda OEM is the longest lasting.

Thanks Dac, Where can I find information about these mods. I did a search and see many people mention the 9:1 but didn't see any real details on how it is done or what I need to buy. Also, where can I buy a HP variator and what is is. I guess same question as above any other information is greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Devin

flat weights are caused most times from debris or just old worn out parts. Stock Dio motor has 8.5 grams in them. im pretty sure that variator kit has 8.5s in them. Did you try removing your restrictor plate from behind the variator? that alone will give you speed. As for your motor, look on the back of it, somewhere by the gear oil plug you wil find some numbers. What you are looking for is "AF16" thats considered a dio motor..

DONT DRILL YOUR AIR BOX! dac, i just want to say, drilling your airbox, and up jetting causes more problems on a stock unrestricted elite then it helps. mine was doing 50 with the airbox not drilled, i drilled it and had nothing but problems until i was on a big bore, or until i ported the carb. jets did nothing.

I have removed the restrictor plate and the moped currently does about 37mph. I would like 45 and would love 50. If I can get 50 I can take this baby anywhere in town. I will look for the model this week some time when I get a chance.tru72 wrote:flat weights are caused most times from debris or just old worn out parts.
