Poor take off on 1989 Elite

I bought a used 1989 SB50P Elite. It seems to run well. It starts quickly and idles well. It goes down the road pretty decent, probably 25 MPH. I cant tell for sure because the speedometer cable is broken. It is so slow on the take off, that it is rediculous. I replaced the two clutch shoes, put in a new belt, cleaned the carburetor with sea foam, and decarbonized the exhaust. I then drilled a hole through the baffles. I also checked air pressure in the tires. I am wondering what my next step would be. I cant imagine that it is a compression problem, because it runs so well, but maybe it is.
I would like to know what the large spring on the driven clutch does. Would a worn out spring cause poor acceleration at take off. I weigh about 220. are these Elites made for a lighter person? Thank you in advance for all replies.
