I rode it arounf the corner to the store and now it won't start. I cleaned the old sparkplug, put some gas down into where the sparkplug goes and it got gas for a split second and the died. Subsequent attempts failed so I bought a new plug. Still not starting. Plenty of compression with my finger over the hole. At one point I adjusted the fuel and mixture and accidentally closed the fuel screw and tried to start it numerous times. Did I get air into the fuel line or something. Even if so, it doesn't explain why it just died. Good fuel flow from float bowl. I unscrewed the bystarter and tried to start with it off and nothing. Could it just be a clog somewhere in the carburetor or the needle stuck/clogged?? I don't want to dissassemble if not nec.

What you got along the line of an air filter?

I put a new air filter in last year and only run it during the summer. I forgot to mention that it makes the same sound starting with the plug cap on as it does when the cap is off. I think the problem might be spark if it's doing that. Does the cap have 2 grippers inside the plug cap or one?
