Final drive fluid/ gear oil or 10w-40?

What do you guys use? I drained mine and it was gear oil , looked in the book and it says 10w-40 I will do what the book says, but It was 100%gear oil that I drained. super thick and no mistaken the smell. What do you guys use?

i guess its what U prefer.....i always use 80/90wt in mine.

thats to thick. it will slow you down. allot of people put thicker s*** in there thinking its what belongs since its gears. how ever 10w30 or 10w40 is what you should put in there.
I talked to a guy at honda about it.

true....i agree dac, i have read the manuals on what oil to put im there, its just my prefrence on what oil to put in there. I think being that they r gears.....put gear oil in there. but hey.....what do i know?! lol

Stock engines 10-30, 10-40, or plain 30
Upgraded motors should run gear lube IMO because its working hard enough that it will heat up and not slow you down.

that is true.
i can only imagen 90 in there mid winter. Motor revs all the way but the scooter just cant get moving. even on stand. lol

Filled it with 10w-40 It had gear lube in there, It drained super slow. I filled and dumped it 3 times with warm 10w 40 till it was clear oil.

but just use it those gears work to hard to use motor oil,
gear oil has ep additives (extreme pressure), which is usually a sulfur/zinc/moly mishmash, hense the * smell of non syn. gear oil
oh and no sludge of death when its cold outside

His scoot is stock......................so do what the manufacturer sez to do. Seems pretty simple to me.

I agree... if gear lube was better, Honda would of used it.

We used to call stock oil fish-oil, because in the 80s, the oil smelled fishy and was only good for break-ins.
Even if your bike is stock, treat it to some synthetic multi-weight gear oil. Use the same thing that dirt bike guys use in your area.
If you're running a performance moped, then break in with regular gear oil and then go synthetic. Good synthetics have 3x the shear strength of natural petroleum oils = less friction, less wear, better performance and longer life.
You don't have to change gear oil very often, so it's worth the few extra bucks.

ok, im kinda mid-break in on my 96 elite. ( new bore, new gears) As of right now im running 10w 40.
So your saying that when im done i should switch synthetic, what thickness?
