1989 SB50P Elite rebuild questions

I took a compression check and the results were 150 psi. I took the engine apart and the exhaust port was partially plugged. I then decided to install new rings. I now have two questions. The new rings that I purchased came with 3 rings. Two of them are identical to the old rings. The third ring is very thin, not much thicker than a piece of wire. When I removed the old rings I did not see anything resembling this thin ring. Where does this ring go, or is it a ring that is only used on some applications? My second question is should I hone the cylinder to get the old glaze off the cylinder. The cylinder has no scratches or gouges. I have always done this with 4 cycle rebuilds, but this is my first attempt at a two cycle rebuild. Thank you in advance for all replies

Dunno on the rings but yes hone the cylinder.

the wire ring (or oil ring) goes on the bottom groove of the piston. doulble check your rings and look for the tiny "T" witch means top when your going to install them.

I have the same model, had the cylinder honed but has some rough spots still, any ideas where I can get a good used one or what to do next?

Have it honed again. You will be surprised how much material can come off and still result in a running motor.
