Rear wheel won't go back on

Hey all, I just bought a 1987 spree with a flat rear tire. Nice folks at a local tire place repaired the flat for free, and now I'm here begging for help after more than 4 hours trying to get the darn thing back onto the scooter!
I cannot find anything online indicating that there's anything special I need to do - yes, I do think I have the wheel turned round the right way... :?
What am I missing? Maybe I need remedial wheel mounting lessons
Thanks!

Thanks for your response! I'm going to figure out what exactly is involved with trying your suggestion and hopefully not only will it work but I'll learn more about how to work on my little scoot :)

Not working

I've looked over the braking assembly and it seems ok, not stuck open or anything - does anyone have a link for replacing a rear tire? Or working on the brake system, which seems to be related? I'm really stuck :(

The nut holding the cable to the lever on the rear brake, remove the nut.

Done and done :) thanks you guys, the wheel is back on and I feel much more confident about messing with the brakes!

Just make sure you put the nut back on the cable...

You seem to understand just how new I am to this
