Hey all. Im new to this forum and scooters in general. Just bought an 87 Elite SE50P. Does this year have the variator plate that can be removed for more speed? Is this it?
If so, is there suppose to be anything holding the ramp in?
I can only hit 27mph. Rollers had flat spots on them, Im hoping it will help a little when I replace them. Do I greese the rollers at all?
Thanks for the help

that ring is what as known as the restricker plates in some cases. but that one don't look like it is blocking anything. See, the idea behind those is to block the variator from opening all the way.
Place the Boss drive in the variator, (boss drive is the long spacer type thing. ) Then set the variator on something, such as in your picture.
If that is in fact a restricker, having it on or off will make a difference in how far it can open. The idea is you want that variator to open up as much as possible.
As for grease, I never put any grease in mine. From what i have heard, the grease was just something honda did to slow the take off on these bikes.
Welcome to the site.

I have an 84 aero and my variator looked just like that.
In the manual it says to add 15g of lithium based grease to the variator.
I soaked mine in carb cleaner, scrubed it out, then just put some grease
on my finger and smeared it around the ramps and valleys.
Cleaning that wad of gunk out helped top speed a little,
but taking the plate off did nothing for acceleration or speed.
But a lighter reciprocating assembly can't hurt.
