if you put tighter cluch springs on you can build up the comp spring by using washers, find the o/d and go at least 1'4 it should help.

Just shim it with washers as maddog suggested, it wont hurt top speed, your bike will just spool up a little longer before the clutch kicks in giving you better takeoff

OK, now I'm confused. Why would change the compression spring on a Spree matter; there's no variator to change the pulley ratio?

Lol good point, you dont need to change a spree compression spring, it just keeps the belt tensioned. You do however need to change the pull style springs on the clutch pads to change engagement RPM.

actually the center spring does way more than just keep the belt tension. The stiffer the center, the longer it will stay in its easiest gear, but to heavy of a spring it will never shift into high gear. Thats a common problem with people when they set their transmission up. So to your answer , yes a to heavy spring can damper your top end..

But the spree is fixed gearing, the front pulley is just a solid chunk of metal and the belt never moves when you riding (you know what i mean).
