Just did the math for the first time (first gallon of gas) and im about 40 MPG, what am i doing wrong. Its de-restricted, i decarbonized the muffler. I max out at 27 MPH on flat road. I was having problem with my air screw being so loose that when i adjusted it, it would go back to fully seated position after about 30 seconds! I put some teflon tape on the threads and it stays put now, so I guess Ill run another gallon through and check the MPG again. Any suggestions on other things I can try?

are you sure the tank holds exactly one gallon, i thought i read somewhere it was like eight tenths of a gallon (or something like that)?

I think its like 1.2 gallons (according to the gas pump at the gas station) But even so, I wrote down my milage before gassing up with 1.110 gallons, then took a of miles when i was near empty and filled up with .909 gallons. here is my math with 2617 miles at first fill and 2651 at fill today. 2651- 2617 = 34 miles using .909 gallons of gas, so.. 34 over .909 = 37.40 over 1 . So even 40MPG was an wrong Im getting 37.4 MPG correct?

Should definitely be better.. My modded Elite gets a consistent 42mpg with mixed riding, wot and 60+mph
Stock should be closer to 60mpg. Hows plug looking? A/F screw problem doesn't sound too good if it becomes fully seated that is richest setting and maybe why you're wasting more gas. Any air/exhaust leaks anywhere?

Now that the A/F screw is staying put I will do a plug chop tonight. No exhaust leaks, not sure about air leaks, how can I tell? What is a good setting on the A/F screw, as far as # of turns. Right now I basically backed it off of fully seated by 1/4 turn. It already runs better.

wow..not good. do you see any leaks from letting the scooter sit in one spot? To help, I get 85 or so mpg on my '98 elite and it doesn't matter if I baby it or not its still in the 80's..synthetic gear oil and motor oil made mine just from the 60's to the 80's.
My air mixture screw is set somewhere between 1 and 1.5 turns out(as in 360 degree turns)
I just got done working on a 96 elite and it was set at 2 turns out(at 360 degrees)
Throttle on both was 2.5 turns out(at 360 degrees)

1.5-2 turns out is best range, as mentioned.

To get 35 or so, take off the plate on the variator and take the exhause off and drill out the washer..by drilling out the washer you'll not only go faster but will have better acceleration
