Spree did something goofy on the way to work today...
It is hotter than blue billy * here, like almost 100 degrees. Was heading in to work, down a long hill, almost hit 40MPH. Then as the road leveled out, the motor slowed down...35...30...25...20...15...pulled over. Bike idled great, but I gave it any throttle at all, it bogged and died within a second. Started right back up, but would only idle. Turned it off, sat under a tree on the side of the road for a couple of minutes looking around at things. Plenty of gas in the gas line. Nothing leaking. There was a bubble in the oil line between the pump and the intake that was not there before, not sure what's up with that, I'll have to check it when I got home. Anyhow, after sitting on the side of the road for like 5 minutes, it started up and would run like normal. I only went 25 the rest of the way to work.
I can only think of two things this might be:
1. Overheating due to running the motor faster than it is capable of running on it's own?
2. Oil pump can't keep up with consumption at very high RPM?
I'm not sure what happened, but it was really odd. It's never done that before.

Check fuel flow... I've had this happen when the petcock stopped flowing fuel in the middle of a ride.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away I went down a long grade on a hot day at wide open throttle on a friends scooter. About half way down it siezed up. After cooling it ran fine(lucky me). Doing that causes them to run way lean. Same hill at 3/4 throttle and closing the throttle for a few seconds every once and a while worked fine and was almost as fast.

Yeah, I'm guessing that is what happned. It is odd though. I only have a ~4 mile ride to work, and I was about 1.5 miles out when it happened. The motor had only been running for less than 4 minutes. That seems like a very short amount of time to overheat in. I also don't understand why it would idle just fine when it was overheated.

Same reason it idles fine when you first start it on a cold day but it bogs when you give it throttle.CharlotteSpreeRider wrote:Yeah, I'm guessing that is what happned. It is odd though. I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
