Just bought an 89 Elite E - Had a few general questions

Hey everyone, I recently bought myself a 1989 Honda Elite E with only 800 miles on it, and came across this forum.. I've been browsing over the last day and am impressed with the wealth of information here.

From what I've gathered, I have myself an SB50? Unfortunately it looks like there isn't much I could do to it. I have a little problem with modifying every vehicle I own, so I know I won't last long before I start playing with this thing.

My question is, why do the common modifications to all the other elites (derestrictions, etc) not work on the Elite E? I've ridden it around a bit, and while its a total blast, its definitely hurting when it hits any inclines. I'm primarily going to use this to ride back and forth to work, and I've got a decent sized hill to go over, and I'd really rather not crawl up it at 10mph.

The bike seems to hold a solid 30mph on level ground, but I lose momentum quickly going uphill. Is there ANYTHING I can do to the bike that will help? I weight about 180, so my first "mod" is to lose a few lbs, but it would be nice if i could get a little more power by messing with something on the bike.

Anyhow, Just wanted to say hello and thanks in advance for the help. I'm going to keep on ignoring the work I should be doing and read a bit more on these forums.

Here are a few pics of the new wheels:

Welcome!

In case you didn't already realize this, your new Elite looks amazing. It looks like someone really took care of it.

Unfortunately I drive an Aero, so I can't help you with mod info.

WOW!! VERY nice. You need to port the intake and shave the head .20 It wont give you more speed but more power to get up hills. Also make sure you run Super gas and Mobil 1 syth 2 stroke injector oil. I have ran all the diff. oils and Mobil 1 burns the cleanest and gave me 1 mph. Take it for what it is. :D

Drill 2 baffles from the muffler (stick a drill up the tip and drill restrictions)

check the exhaust header for a restrictor washer, also check the ex port for buildup

Port exhaust, raise 1 ring width, port match exhaust header if necessary

have .020 shaved from head

^All mods I know for power on a SB50 motor.

Great looking Honda!

I just bought the EXACT same model on 1 Jun 08. I did take the pink sticker off the front........ paid $625 for mine with 3000 miles on it. I am going to try the exhaust porting and drill the muffler. My Avg. MPG so far is 91.99, high of 102, (93 octane marathon, Honda GN@ oil) and a low of 81 (87 octane 10% ethanol at hucks eWWWW)
