Looking for answers to get spree to idle,,it runs fast

Post by smitty »

Got 86 spree off junk pile--guy said it ran but leaked gas at carb. has no air filter, cleaned carb and gas tank, so it doesnt leak now and starts ok with electric start but will not idle..ajusted air and idle screws but that doesn't help..I've read lots of the different ideas for other problems but not for this one..adjusted throttle cable to let it seat further down but that didn't help either..what can I do

Check the idle circuit in the carb, to make sure it's clear. I'll bet it's not. Run a fuel filter if the tank is dirty or has rust. And get an airfilter element and lid on it; not having one creates a lot of odd problems. Check the needle position on the carb (see service manual.) Make sure your vacuum petcock is working.
